How pipe cutter OD calculators work

Plain-language guide to sizing a manual pipe/tubing cutter from measured OD, the 1.125 / 2 / 2.5 in ladder, material notes, and when the answer is NO_MATCH.

What this tool answers

You need a first-pass manual pipe/tubing cutter size before buying. Enter measured OD in inches. The calculator names the smallest class on this site’s ladder — 1.125, 2, or 2.5 in — or returns NO_MATCH. It is not an NPT threader selector and not a powered pipe saw.

OD vs nominal pipe size

Copper and tubing are often sold by OD. Steel pipe NPT names refer to nominal size, not exact OD. Measure OD with calipers when possible. Threader die size is a separate decision (see pipenpt elsewhere in the network).

Class ladder on this site

Classes use published VEVOR US max-OD claims checked 2026-09-10: 1.125 in mini tubing cutter, 2 in tubing cutter set, and 2.5 in ratcheting PVC/PEX cutter. Matching rule: smallest class where published max OD ≥ measured OD.

When the answer is NO_MATCH

If measured OD exceeds 2.5 in, this site returns NO_MATCH. Typical next steps: a larger industrial cutter, a powered saw rated for the material, or a different process. Do not force a consumer cutter past this screen.
